Achieving public safety while ensuring public trust in the Sheriff’s Office is accomplished through the
delivery of professional, timely, and competent responses to calls for service. It will also be achieved by
proactive responsiveness to community needs and by implementing procedures for oversight,
transparency, diversity and due process at all levels.
It is incumbent upon the sheriff’s office to employ deputies who are highly trained and knowledgeable in all aspects of law enforcement, crime prevention, community relations, and human behavior.
Here is a snapshot of some key issues I will address as a Sheriff for all:
Public Safety, Crime Suppression and Criminal Investigations
Work to develop a team of mental health professionals to respond to calls regarding mental health crises and substance use issues, reducing risk factors for deputies and individuals in crisis.
Initiate robust data gathering based on the national COMPSTAT model used to track crime, criminal patterns, and effective solutions for crime prevention and enforcement.
Work closely with the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender, and Probation Departments to ensure effective investigations and enforcement strategies, with an emphasis on restorative justice that benefits all shareholders.
Transparency, Accountability, and Oversight
Work closely with the county counsel, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the Board of Supervisors, and the director of Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach (IOLERO) for more robust oversight and monitoring of conduct of deputies as outlined by Measure P.
Ensure that deputies are aware of the needs of the community, beginning with ownership of all contacts. Deputies to initiate follow-up on all calls for service and reports of crimes or civil matters.
Recruitment, Hiring, and Diversity
Recruit for deputy candidates who reflect the community values of fairness, diversity, compassion, and empathy to all. Create mentorship program for young people to develop interest in careers with the new, community centered Sheriff’s Office.

“I am the only candidate for Sheriff committed to full implementation of Measure P, passed with 64% of the vote in 2020, to bring increased transparency and public oversight to the sheriff’s Department.”
